I won’t be troubled by dishes piling up in the sink for a couple days (maybe elsewhere in the house, but not in the sink), as I currently have no sink. Ed removed the sink and the decayed counter in which the sink formerly rested, and has promised that I will have a counter again by Tuesday afternoon, when we will have our first family company. Actually, my uncle is only stopping by for a quick visit & dinner, so it doesn’t really matter that the counter probably won’t be ready to use by tomorrow afternoon – I can improvise for one decent meal. We would have been further along, except that the sink we had bought proved, when we opened the box yesterday, to be cracked, and the board Ed bought to replace the rotted one wasn’t quite the right size. It’s always something.
The excellent Dan showed up again today, with his ladder, and he put a rope over a branch for us so that our tire could be hung. Ed and T. hung the tire together, and now T. is proudly describing it as the tire swing “he made.” The kids and I played with it for quite a while this afternoon, and it really is pretty great! When our fence finally goes up and we get a couple more of our swings up, we will finally be able to throw
the kids outside and tell them to work their sillies out.
A certain cherished reader told me yesterday that my entry on the Pumpkin Festival was a little unclear concerning the location of that event. Just to clarify, the Pumpkin Festival was in Elkin, which is about 20 minutes away from us, and which is also where our church And our Lowes are located. Elkin isn’t large – 4,300, according to city-data.com – but it is a booming metropolis when compared to our little unincorporated township. I include a picture, taken from our front yard, of the cross roads at the center of town (technically, I have no idea if it is at the center, but it is as “town-y” as the place gets). You can see the Baptist church, the vacant store, once a tractor store, across from the church, the vacant store kitty-corner from the church, and a corner of the park. If you look very carefully, you can also see the stop sign. If you were driving towards me from the cross roads, you would pass the Baptists and the one story brick house, and you would turn left into our driveway. We would be very pleased to see you!

Yay! I like tire swings
Thanks for the directions, Melora. I'll be over as soon as I can get Jack to stop wasting all my spare cash x
Could there possibly be a simpler pleasure than a tire swing? Fun, fun, fun!
Ohhhh, I'm so sorry about the sink issues. If you have any stray lumber laying around, it makes a great makeshift counter for extra flat surface area when your Uncle comes to visit.
Tell T. we LOVE the swing he made! That's awesome! (I love the Excellent Dan - sounds like he's been a real life saver.)
And I love the picture of "town". What a great idea. I'll have to get one of ours, too. Hadn't thought of that. We have Baptists at the end of our street, too - on both ends of the street.

The tire swing is a real hit!
I'll send a little more detailed directions, Cherrypie, when you buy your plane ticket. Do speak to Jack!
I'll pass along the tire swing compliments to T.!
I'll look forward to seeing your town picture, Dy!
