My uncle’s visit was great fun. He is excellent company, and said all the right things about the house, and didn’t gloat too much about the fact that he has a shower and a kitchen sink in his RV, and we have neither. The kids had a great time showing off their toys and talents, and we even got in a walk to the corner store. Dinner came out well, despite the lack of sink or counters, although Ed had to rescue the dinner roll dough, which, inexplicably, went soupy.
Ed and I finally got my birthday roses planted this {Thursday} afternoon, finishing the last one a little after a very nice sunset. The shovel has gone missing again, so we had to use a 2 quart saucepan to fill in the dirt, which probably gave the people driving past us on their way home from work a chuckle (I was almost surprised when no one stopped and offered us a spatula.). Dan might come tomorrow (one never knows!), and he might put in my birthday split rail fence across the front yard. When the fence does get put in, it will look nice (of course, I’m imagining it with my dream garden along the length fully completed and free of black spotted roses and weeds – ha!).
** This entry has turned into a record of the week, rather than the usual one day’s events. It has been one of those weeks. It rained all day today, so Dan didn’t put up the fence. He did, however, return the shovel, which he had accidentally tossed in his truck. Because of the rain, the church’s youth outing to the corn field maze planned for tonight was cancelled, to T.’s severe disappointment. On the up side, we have a new, Sponge Bob version of The Game of Life which T. has been eager to play. The kitchen sink and counter are still in progress.

Has he been demoted from the "excellent Dan" to just "Dan"? I'm glad you discovered what happened to the shovel. Sounds like it's a good thing the week is now over.
But I'm so glad your uncle's visit went nicely! It's always encouraging to have someone outside those who are committed to a project have nice things to say about the project. :-)

He is back to being the excellent Dan today, since he showed up and put in my split rail fence (six inches higher than I wanted, but it is in). I was pretty grumpy with him last week, since I found out that he had started in on using my new kitchen towels as paint rags, since I had to buy new kitchen towels because he'd used the old ones as paint rags. He is very sensitive, and Ed insists that we treat him with kid gloves, so, aside from pointing out the box of rags Ed purchased For paint use, we didn't explicitly tell him that we'd prefer he didn't use the new dish towels. He is a good fellow, overall.
