We went hiking up to Stone Mountain Falls yesterday with my parents, then had a picnic. It was fun but more tiring than I had expected. I had been told that there were a Lot of steps up to the falls, but I hadn't appreciated how many were meant by "a lot." Travis says there was a sign at the top that said there were 1000 steps. He often exaggerates, but in this case I would have believed double his number. The view was spectacular, though.
We hadn't tackled this hike before because the idea of a really high waterfall that people occasionally fall off of (and die) made me nervous. Actually, someone fell off just last weekend. However, having a three adults to two children ratio is very comforting to a nervous mommy, and this seemed like a good opportunity. Of course, neither of the children did climb over the railing and try to dance across the rocks, so my worries were needless, but I was still glad to have the extra supervision!
Both kids managed to "fall" into little streams a couple of times. Since they didn't then complain of hiking with wet feet, that was okay.
Here is my daddy trying to help Katie brush her hair before we left the house. She thought it was a game.
And a gratuitous Ninja-girl picture.

It looks like great fun, although my dh would have vertigo at the top of those falls.
What a beautiful waterfall! But, oy- Those stairs!
It looks as though the climb was well worth it. :)
