Fabulous Friday

Today our hs book group met at the park to discuss Sarah, Plain and Tall. It was a very short book, and discussion didn't take long, so the kids had lots of time to play. We had a picnic lunch and stayed for quite a while. The kids had a great time, despite the fact that Katie's allergies have not improved at all (apparently a beautiful spring, with trees and bushes all brilliant with flowers, means a wickedly fierce allergy season for those who suffer from pollen), and I don't think the children minded terribly that we never did get all our lessons done.

One of the weird things about this house is that the back porch was added after the original construction and a kitchen window and a dining room window look right into what is now our school room. We looked into taking out the dining room window and putting in French doors, but the construction guy we talked with said it would be very expensive. Turns out to be a good thing we left them, because that window makes a marvelous puppet show stage! Ed and I sat at the dining room table and the kids sat in the school room, and they put on a fine show for us. We are going to rig up a curtain for a backdrop, and maybe another for in front, but it won't take much to get their new theatre looking just right.

Harry isn't about to let a little thing like a puppet show in progress get in the way of his favorite route from one room to the other.

That's funny - we are reading Sarah, Plain and Tall this week too! We have read it before, but I wanted to read the sequels and so we started from the beginning to refresh everyone's memory. We all give it a thumbs up - it's a great book.

I love the puppet stage, too! Something I wish I had when I was a kid! :)

Someone mentioned the sequels yesterday. I will have to check and see if I can find those!

One of the best things about this puppet stage is that it doesn't tip over when the puppeteers get a little rowdy! (And it doesn't have to be Stored anywhere!)
