Penelope the Python

Yesterday we went to the kick-off event for the library's summer program. It is wonderful how much more I enjoy library summer programs when I'm not running them. The topic for the day was Snakes, and Ed stayed to watch -- aren't you proud of him? The speaker, who was very good, had brought thirty something snakes with him. The children all had a chance to hold or pat a snake. Katie held this cute little hog nose snake.

And finally he brought out Penelope the Python. She was quite impressive. All the children got to stroke her as they walked past. She was shy and hid her head behind the first young man holding her.(Unloading Penelope was quite the project. There just kept on being more snake.)After the library program Katie got her shots. Hardly a murmur of protest this time -- I'm so proud of her! Then to the public pool, which is considerably less crowded by 4:00 and much more pleasant for it.

Today we went here.

Travis jumped into the pool, which is deep and, judging by the speed with which he jumped out again, very cold.Katie is more leisurely. And I just loved the roots on this tree. It reminded me of Old Man Willow.

We took the kids to the Stone Mountain Country Store for burgers and fries for supper, and Travis said it was "the best restaurant ever!"
