A Little Bit of Everything

Tuesday again, already!

We were lucky this morning with the weather, and there was a nice cool breeze blowing during Katie's lesson. Apparently it was carrying quite a bit of pollen, though. But regardless of her allergies, Katie had a good time!

Before the lesson Thora got a little manicure.

Then Katie practiced leading the horse without getting stepped on or leaving too much slack in the line.
And Finally she got to ride and practice her steering technique.

In addition to horses and dogs (including the most absolutely enormous Great Dane I've ever seen), Miss Leisa has cats on her place. Lots and lots and lots of cats.

For homework, Katie is supposed to learn Miss Leisa's slip knot, which is the only knot she allows for tying up her horses. I learned it (after Miss Leisa showed me quite a few times), and I spent a good half hour tonight trying to show Ed how to tie it. He finally got it, but I still haven't succeeded in teaching it to Katie. Good thing we have a week!

I don't do movie reviews, but we watched Amazing Grace last night and it was really quite good.

Today for math we read G is for Googol: a Math Alphabet Book (by David M. Schwartz) . Actually, we didn't read All of it -- we skipped around. But what we read was fun! We decided that we need to make a Mobius Strip (M is for Mobius Strip, you know!) this week, and Katie was very taken with "P is for Probability." She just kept making more and more different charts and graphs to track whether our nickel came up heads or tails. And the whole family enjoyed "K is for Konigsberg," where we tried to find a way to cross a network of seven bridges, crossing each bridge once but Only once. We didn't succeed, but we had a good time trying!

Now you've got me missing my riding days! There's a stable just over the hill...I wonder if they have rides?
