Tuesday

Our homeschool "book group" (which I put in parenthesis because they still haven't scheduled a time to start Reading Books again) didn't meet yesterday because half the children are gone away to camp this week. Travis and Katie were feeling a little wistful about the whole camp thing, so we decided to do Something Fun ourselves. We thought about Bora Bora (my little brother put me onto Bora Bora), but then we decided that it would be more convenient to go to Stone Mountain and play at Widow Falls.

There were Lots of deer out.

The kids had a great time, and Katie conquered her fear of sliding down the rocks (not the Really High rocks, but the long water slide). (As we were leaving, Ed stopped to help this fellow who had locked his keys in the car. Travis talked with a very funny little boy wearing a Spiderman mask.)

We had dinner at the Country Store, which has very good hamburgers and fries as well as first class ice cream.

(Ed says he couldn't make this face again if he tried. Which he wouldn't. I think he's cute.)

Today Katie was supposed to have a riding lesson, but when we got to the teacher's house, we found she had gone off to give lessons at the local estate of a rich woman from Raleigh. Since her work for this woman is apparently her primary bread and butter, and since we only live a three minute drive away, we were only mildly disappointed. The lesson is rescheduled for tomorrow. We then decided to go blueberry picking. The nearby blueberry patch opened only yesterday, so we were sure that there would be Lots of berries. The kids and I drove over (three minutes in the Other direction -- riding lessons and blueberries are the Only things that are conveniently close to our house!), only to find that the picking was "Closed for Ripening." Guess they had quite the crowd yesterday.

So we just did school & puttered today. But it was nice.

(Our cats love each other. Hasn't Emma gotten big?)
