As seems to be the usual for me lately, the last couple days were sucked away into a time warp. I have no other explanation.
Travis came to Prairie Girls with us on Wednesday and did "boy stuff" while we did our Prairie Girl thing. The boys watched part of Ghost Busters (which Travis had never seen and absolutely Loved) and then went out Ghost Hunting in the woods. The girls discussed By the Shores of Silver Lake, tried (with very limited success) to learn to waltz and polka, sang "Captain Jinx," ate peaches and soda crackers, and got extremely muddy by the shores of the drought depleted pond. Both girls and boys had a marvelous time!
(Our hostess, "Ma Cason," and her new baby, Ruby.)(Just look at how Green that pond is! Especially in contrast with the parched grass.)In Silver Lake, Laura and her family eat peaches and soda crackers one night, and this is described as a wonderful and extremely rare treat. I can't remember whether the peaches in the book were canned or jarred, and the book is upstairs, but our peaches were jarred. Some of the other moms and I were very impressed with our hostess for having preserved peaches which were so very neatly sliced. We asked her how she did it, and she explained that Mr. Delmonte helped her. Just how I would have done it!
Ruby crawled under the nice, shady steps to take a nap. But it wasn't long before the children found her."Come out and play, Ruby!"Poor sleepy puppy. At this point, though, the mommies stepped in and redirected the children, allowing Ruby to continue her nap in peace.Katie very quickly decided that she preferred swinging to waltzing. There is no debutante ball in her future, so I let her swing.

Mr. Delmonte! I love it!
I would have done the same thing when the Cub Scouts made butter in our kitchen--if I could have gotten away with it. Alas, some boys were swinging their jars too wildly..guess what happened.
Your pond looks like it could use some help. I wish I could send some of our excess your way.
