Another First Out of the Way

For their final meeting, Katie's Praire Girls group had a sleep-over party in the log cabin last night. Katie has never done a sleep-over before (and it will be many a year before she does one again!) and was very excited. Travis was disappointed at being left out, but I got Spiderman III from Netflix and he and Ed ended up having a good "boys' night." The girls made cute Christmas ornaments, ate popcorn, talked about the Little House series, and giggled and talked. They "slept" upstairs, and the moms were downstairs, and some of them (not Katie) stayed up all night. My couch was comfortable, and the woodstove kept me warm (at one point in the evening someone checked, and the temperature outside was 16 degrees. In November! The pond froze hard enough that Ruby, the black lab, was able to walk on it this morning.), but I didn't sleep. Katie had a good time but missed her bed and our regular routine. So we are planning an early night tonight.

I called the woman in charge of our church's pageant today to find out if I really needed to plan a Sunday School lesson for tomorrow or if Sunday School would consist of pageant prep. It is to be pageant prep, so I was awfully glad I asked, but even better, she told me that the roles of Joseph and Mary were still open. Travis and Katie had told me that they would love those parts, but we knew there a couple other children who would be given first pick of roles. But it turns out that, given their choice, some people would rather be shepherds or wise men. Isn't that nice?

I used to spend the night in wood-stove heated cabin at the Rocky Mountain Field Station, above Nederland, CO. It was interesting. Once night I had to stop feeding the fire because it had gotten too warm in the room. The temp outside was 10 degrees!

It sounded like a good time, but like you, I do not sleep as well when I'm not in my own bed.
