Our Country Song Holiday

My parents arrived at our house last Sunday, and we spent a few pleasant days preparing for Thanksgiving and talking. Oh, and my daddy played every game we own with Katie, each one several times. (He is a good sport.)

My brother got here late Wednesday with his girlfriend and his four wonderful children. His youngest was quite sick, so he took her to our local emergency room, where she was diagnosed with pneumonia. Thanksgiving dinner was very nice anyway, though a little subdued. Then my brother sweetly started fixing our broken computers and my mom, brother's girlfriend, and Ed went to take all the kids to swim in the motel's heated pool. Ed, backing up with unfortunate speed and flourish, forgot where my brother's fancy new truck was parked and backed into it. Hard. Fortunately no one was hurt, but my brother loves his truck only a little less than his children and the evening ended rather uncomfortably. (Ed assured him that we will make it right again, and is sure the panel can be replaced, but it is such a pretty truck that the dents were hard to look at.)
(Here Ed is eating more pie. He loves pie.)

Friday was nice but too cold and cloudy for hiking. Travis and Katie had a great time playing outside with their cousins anyway.

My brother and his crew left their hotel early this morning on their way back to Florida, my brother having said that he does not plan to be with us next Thanksgiving.

My mom accidentally left her high blood pressure medication at home when she and my dad set out to visit my aunt and uncle in Massachusetts and then us. She had a few pills with her and has been taking them every other day. She had mentioned this to me, but I didn't realize that this was a Very Bad Thing. This morning she got up, made waffles for everyone, and then spent the rest of the day throwing up and with a sick headache. My dad got her pills through a local pharmacy (why didn't we think to do that on Monday?), but she couldn't keep them down. Finally this afternoon she fainted in the bathroom. The paramedics came and looked her over, but of course she didn't want to go to the hospital. So we are keeping a close eye on her and hoping for the best.

Ed commented this evening that this past week would make a good country song.

You have my sympathy.

When I was growing up we had a few holidays that would also qualify. Fortunately, none like that lately.

I hope your brother's truck gets repaired and he mellows out.
I hope your mom is feeling better now.

And the pies look good. I guess they'd be left out of the country song. :)

Elisheva,
Thank you! Actually, my brother took the damage with great stoicism. He didn't say one word about it, And the next day he came back and got both computers working. I do hope he'll change his mind and come back next year, though!
The pies would definitely ruin the tragic tone of my song.
