Sloppy Science Allows a Good Night's Sleep

Last night was stormy, and at about 2:30 in the morning, Bo came scratching and crying at our bedroom door.  It was my turn, so I took my pillow and went to keep him company in the living room.  I gave him some drops of Rescue Remedy, but decided to hold off on the Anxiety Wrap, to better be able to determine how effective the drops were.  After about 10 minutes of pacing and panting, he settled down on the floor by the couch, not exactly calm, but certainly calmer.  At that point, K. woke up and started crying for her mommy.  Ed and I traded places.  Evidently more interested in sleep than science, Ed gave Bo some more drops, and put on the Anxiety Wrap.  (I think it is telling of the difference between masculine and feminine thinking that Ed referred to the Wrap, which I thought of as swaddling, as Bo’s “armor.”)  Either the extra dose of R.R. or the Anxiety Wrap did the trick, and Bo went back to sleep on his couch, allowing Ed to return to bed, but inquiring minds will have to wait until the next storm for another chance to test whether the wrap or the drops were what calmed Bo’s troubled little doggy mind.

We had a substitute priest in this morning.  He wasn’t bad, but I found his homily, which started with a long list of “fatherly” sayings, such as “I brought you into this world, and I can take you back out,” to be a bit tiring.  He eventually got around to making some good points, but he certainly made me appreciate our vacationing rector.  T. did better, with a real artist as today’s Sunday School teacher.  She made a point of coming up to me during the coffee hour and telling me that T. participated in and really seemed to enjoy the painting activity after the lesson (apparently most of the kids were uninterested).  Her compliment was especially nice, coming as it did after last week’s poorly received painting of John and Jesus.  I asked T. afterwards what she taught about, and got the rather unenlightening answer “God and stuff.”  At least he behaved himself.

What denomination is your church? I just ask because you said "Priest", does that only cover Catholic?

LOL! I take the good things and applique them onto my heart - it helps buffer the little things that come.

We also had a guest speaker today - weird. Although ours was actually excellent, which I appreciated.

Anyhow, I tried to comment last night, but couldn't - the kids really do play well together, and that picture of the two of them is priceless.

Oh, and if you find the time you lost the other day, see if any of mine is hiding in there, too. I seem to lose the chunk between four thirty and ten PM. It's uncanny!

Cece,
Anglicans have priests too, and we are Episcopalians, which are a branch of the Anglican church.

Dy,
I'll let you know if I find our missing hours! Perhaps behind the loveseat, with the odd socks and the dog's tennis balls?
