Much Industry, Not Much Noticeable Improvement

We (Ed and I) spent the weekend being good little ants, working diligently to try to bring some semblance of order to our home, which still has that “the movers just tossed our things in the door and here we are” look. After nearly a month and a half (I may be a bit off on this – I haven’t seen my calendar since we moved), this look is getting pretty old. Ed worked on the kitchen, and I worked on the boxes in various rooms. I moved a lot of boxes around, but, having filled the last existing bookcase, I can’t really empty any more book or computer boxes until we build or buy shelves and desks. I had to do battle with a really aggressive camel cricket (I used to think they were mole crickets, but these are camel crickets – they look like hunchbacked brown spiders and are about the size of your average baby camel) for the last bit of bookcase, back in a dark corner, but I prevailed (well, actually, Ed prevailed, but even he leaped back screaming when the thing jumped at him, before he summoned up all his manly courage and went in for the kill).

Today was supposed to be Door Day – the day Wayne was going to install our new door in a new, non-rotted and non-smelly frame, but Wayne never showed. It was quite a disappointment, but maybe he will come tomorrow.

** The picture of the kitchen is to show what a cheerful red we picked for the paneling (and remember that the paneling won't even show on half the kitchen, since it is, or will be, covered in cabinets, and there will be a white tile backsplash over the cabinets). If you like the color, good, and, if not, you really Will like it when you see it in the finished kitchen!

Travis was wearing his new, cold weather clothes from Granny and Paba this weekend Indoors as protection against predatory camel crickets. He figured they'd give up and move on to easier victims when faced with his many layers of clothing. Katie actually put on her new clothes to keep warm, outside.

We. Hate. Camel. Crickets.

What's worse is that they're quiet, so it's not like you get any warning before they lunge. And they have a horrible sense of humor, too. Blech. GO ED!! You ROCK!

The kitchen red is lovely! OMGosh. Are you going with a white-white to go with it, or more of an eggshell white? antique white? shade #67984 white?

It's coming together!! It really is! I love the pictures - the kids look all ready for sledding!

Ed says to think of them as NC lizards. HA! Lizards are cute and timid. Camel crickets are the Ugliest insects I've ever seen in my life, aggressive, and we have them everywhere. Do bug bombs work on them?

The kitchen was Going to be cream walls, darker cream cabinets, and then the red panelling. However, the cream turned out darker than I expected, and the cabinets are a light yellow. There will be a white backsplash, with a few scattered decorative tiles. I really like that red. In this kitchen, I was going for "warm and cheerful," and I think that red will do the trick!

The kids like dressing up in warm clothes for fun, but they don't understand yet that, when the weather is cold, you are supposed to wear shoes when you go outside. We'll get there!

Awww! Thanks. They are Much nastier -- instead of scuttling about, they crawl up walls and lurk in corners, waiting for the opportunity to leap at you.

Your kids make me laugh. There's no WAY it's that cold there yet!
