Today was supposed to be Fair Day, but I’m such a dope that I didn’t read our coupons for “all you can ride” tickets until this morning, when I noticed that they are only good on Monday and Thursday. Given the price of ride tickets, we decided to make tomorrow Fair Day instead. Judging by what I saw on the fair web site, this looks like a good one, with livestock, crafts, pig races (yippee!), a flea circus (Bo once had a flea zoo, but perhaps a circus would be more amusing), and various other cool exhibits, along with the midway rides and games of chance (ho hum). Since tomorrow is my birthday, I will be able to play the birthday girl card to force my family to visit the parts of the fair that I like, as well as the noisy, money draining part that they favor.
The fair delay actually was a good thing, though, since this was my last day to get my NC driver’s license before the Florida license expired. I’ve been meaning to take care of this, but, as usual, my birthday snuck up on me. I read through the NC driver’s handbook this morning that Ed kindly picked up for me, concentrating on the sections on driving on hilly, icy roads, but also picking up details like that you are supposed to honk your horn before you pass someone, and that, once you’ve honked, the guy in front of you is required to let you pass! I’ve never heard of honking at someone you were about to pass before, but if someone did it to me, it would make me think they wanted me to speed up (or, it would have before I read my highly informative handbook). As it turned out, though, the greatest number of questions on the test had to do with driving while intoxicated, and supplying alcohol to minors, which were sections that I had barely skimmed since they just didn’t seem relevant to me. Oops! I had a couple nail biting minutes while my test was graded, but it turned out that I’m still a pretty good guesser on multiple choice tests. So now I have a NC license (and my new voter’s card should be on its way), and I’m good for four more years. Whew!
The fruit and vegetable store our neighbor recommended is across from our insurance office, which was our stop after the DMV, and Ed and the kids humored me with a trip there. We didn’t need anything in particular, but I noted that the prices were better than at the grocery store. We bought a bag of apples, some yogurt covered pretzels (which the kids claimed they did need), and a jar of cherry jam. Once home, the apples proved to be rather mealy, but were still excellent watercolor models. Ed and I are looking forward to testing the jam as soon as the bread is ready!

Happy Birthday, Melora. Hope you had all the fun at the fair x
Thank you so much! It was a very good day!
Dhugs,
I was vastly relieved that I didn't have to parallel park! I keep being afraid that someday they will actually want to see me Drive before renewing my license, and there is No Way I could parallel park that mini van.
