Bird Watching

K. and I spent the morning watching the birds outside our dining room window. We have already pretty much identified most of the birds that come to our feeder, but the real point of watching the birds, for K. at least, is to identify our favorite chickadee's relatives. Stucky, a remarkably handsome and clever chickadee (despite the fact that he got his name when K. thought he had gotten stuck in a hole in the bird feeder), is related in one way or another, according to K., to all the other birds who visit our feeders. (I guess she has quickly assimilated the idea that, in our little area of NC, everyone ((except us)) is related!) I will say, "Oh look! There's a Tufted Titmouse!" and K. will say, "That's Stucky's father!" Stucky's grandfather is, surprisingly, a female Cardinal. He had three brothers, two of whom are Goldfinches, and all of whom are also named Stucky, and his grandmother is a White-breasted Nuthatch. They are a diverse family, but quite compatable for the most part.

*The Chickadee is Stucky, and the Goldfinch is Stucky, one of Stucky's brothers. In the picture below, you see another brother, looking at us in a rather unfriendly way, and also Stucky's father's backside.

Happy New Year, Melora.

I can see Travis' new hair do catching on. x

Thanks! It is quite the thing, but the boys around here tend to have crewcuts, so it would take them a while to manage the topknot.

That makes me think of Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Kids. You never know what a good family will look like. Thanks for the smile.
