We made gingerbread houses last night.
Making them has become a tradition which the children enjoy so much that I am willing to overlook the fact that I have to spend a couple hours in preparation for an activity that they will spend 15-20 minutes on. Of course, the biggest problem with gingerbread houses is that, when you are done, you have an item which is a combination art project/baked good, but it can't be taped to the refrigerator and no one in his right mind would eat it.

Ed had the same idea last night -- he looked at the houses & said, "Those are just the right size for a mouse, aren't they?" Maybe we should set them out in the yard and see if the mice abandon our house for the much more delectable sugar houses!
That looks like great fun. I'd have paid to see a photo if Travis had really gone through with his daring scheme.
oh how FUN! I love the pictures! What a great way to spend an afternoon, eh?

I'm such a perfectionist that I'm not sure I could just let the boys go with candy and icing in hand. :D I'd have to leave the room. But maybe we'll try. I suppose I could make my own to play with so I'd leave theirs alone. ;)
Cherrypie -- the boy is daring, but not completely reckless.
Dy -- it was fun, but I think I've had enough of icing & sprinkles (the little round ones roll Everywhere) to last me a good long while.
KathyJo -- You definitely need your own house. Yours will be level, with perfectly aligned shingles & evenly spaced icicles, and you will be so busy with it that you will hardly notice what the boys are doing til it's over. Of course, since they are being raised by a perfectionist mother instead of a rather slapdash one, your boys will probably make neat houses as well.
