The Ingredients Have Been Gathered

We went up the mountain to Sparta today to a homeschool meeting, but not many other people showed up. Also, there was another overturned tractor-trailer on the twisty mountain road, which didn't make me any happier about my darling's zippy and oh-so-cavalier style of driving. I did get to turn in our Scholastic book order, which is always fun, and T. is very excited about the roller coaster designing computer game he ordered.

After the meeting, we headed back by way of Mount Airy, which is a pretty but very roundabout route. Ed needed some shelves and a door for the pantry (which he persists in referring to as "my" pantry), so we went to Lowes. The kids and I amused ourselves, undoubtedly to the dismay of our fellow shoppers, by trying out all the wireless doorbells. We don't have a working doorbell, and have been told a couple times lately that we really need to get one. After listening to all the possible rings, clangs, and chimes, several times each, we picked a nice one (to be honest, it wasn't T.'s favorite, but his played, variously, "Frosty the Snowman," "Jingle Bells," and, I think, "The Yellow Rose of Texas."). When we told Ed how much our bell and two buttons would cost, he decided to have another go at fixing the old bell and just installing new buttons. From Lowe's, we went on the Lowe's, the food store. Several people have told me, when I've complained about the local grocery stores, that the Lowe's in Mount Airy carries "gourmet" foods. Gourmet is a relative term, of course. There was no prepared sushi, but I did find the ingredients to make my own. Homemade, in this case, will definitely not mean economical, but maybe it will be entertaining?

Tomorrow I have big plans to do our taxes, make sushi, and finish the school that didn't get done today (have I mentioned that K. has finally been willing to start reading the Bob books with me?). Oh, and finish The Count.

Ugh. I hate sushi. Weird that when I met Armondo he was the sushi chef at the restaurant I just started serving at. It's pretty weird for a west coast Canadian girl to not like sushi. I'll eat the raw fish (sashimi) but I don't like the seaweed or the vinegar rice, so I generally stay away from the rolls (maki) and nigiri. It's probably a good thing I don't like it though. Sushi is expenisve, and I can eat regular fish any time for free!

We need a doorbell also. The house had one of those wireless types when we bought it, but it would only ring if it was in the mood. So people came, pushed the button, waited, and left. I took it down, so now they knock and I hear them, but we're in town and the kids saywe *NEED* a doorbell.
