When we started talking to the kids about moving from our house in Florida, one of the advantages I promised them was a bigger yard that they would be allowed to dig in. Our Florida yard, while plenty big for our needs, was less than a quarter of an acre of manicured green sod, and we weren't about to let anyone, even our own precious progeny, put holes in it (also, it was mostly drainfield, so there were some hygiene issues to consider), but we hoped to buy a couple acres "up north." As it turned out, our new home is on what they call around here a "city lot," of three-quarters of an acre. Still, it is bigger than we are used to, and it is certainly not manicured (or sodded). So, come summer, the children will be allowed to dig (in a designated area--I'm still a little fussy). Now that they can dig, the important question is, where will they come out? While clicking through some blogs today, I found the answer -- they will pop up in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Australia. So, once they make it through the earth's core, I guess we will insist they wear floatation devices. Jordana, over at "Curmudgeonry," was the source for this useful site, which I am linking so that you too can find out where that deep hole you have been working on will lead you.

Another day of ugly cold weather has also been another day of beautiful birds. Several times today, there were three bluebirds lined up on my birdbath. I tried to get a picture of them all together, but didn't manage. I kept going out and de-icing the birdbath, but, in between times, when it was frozen, it was sort of cute to watch the birds playing on the ice.

We're going to be in the water, too. Goodness. I'll have to insist John wears his earplugs and headband...don't want his tubes taking on water.
I loved this site! We ended up in the ocean too.
And without the aid of this site, we'd all have been so woefully unprepared. Thank goodness for the internet!
