Okay, we didn't really melt the entire garage, just the siding. And, miraculously, we didn't burn
down our neighbor's shed. We had realized that I put the brush pile a little too near the garage (and the neighbor's shed), so we've been waiting for the right sort of day -- not windy, and after a rain -- to burn the pile. Today fit the bill, so Ed got a burn permit, we pulled the hose back, "just in case," and we lit it. Considering the trouble we had burning the much larger pile of brush that came with this house, we had thought that this smaller, fresher pile might not burn well. Ha! It took off like the proverbial house, and we frantically sprayed water at our garage and, especially, our neighbor's wooden shed. Given the size and heat of the blaze (which I didn't
photograph because I was kind of busy), we were lucky that only the siding melted. Back in Florida we had a nice garbage service that came weekly and picked up yard stuff, so we didn't have to figure out how to dispose of big piles of sticks. I think we have a way to go before we are proper country people.
I got my little dogwood planted today. During the digging, I found quite a few worms. The kids had a great time playing with them, making them temporary pets. K. even tested one to see if he was really a handsome prince (fortunately, Ed was off at the hardware store getting the burn permit and missed this. He would have had a fit!). I hope that all the worms are a sign that the soil is okay.

LOL. I hope she will broaden her search for Prince Charming. I hear he winters over somewhere in the warmer climes.
How cute!
You're well on your way. (Do you let the kids go out barefooted? That's a SURE sign.)

We've read fairy tales in which deer, bulls, frogs, and bears have been enchanted princes, but never one in which a worm became a prince. I will allow, though, that a worm is easier and safer to catch than any of those others.
We don't exactly Allow them out barefooted, but they do often Forget their shoes.
LOL! The first burn pile is always the most memorable. I was reluctant at first, but once I felt safe I had a big enough fire that the husband came and shooed me away, afraid I'd become an arsonist. He seems to think I enjoyed it a bit too much.
