Coming back from tonight's Good Friday service, Ed asked K. what she had thought of his speech (several weeks ago, he accidentally agreed to speak on John 19:30 for Good Friday, and he has been working hard on his speech ever since). "I was afraid the people would throw books at you, Daddy," responded his ever supportive daughter.
"Oh. But did you like it?"
"Yes. I liked it. It was short."
It was short, too. It wasn't the talk I would have written, but, then, it wasn't supposed to be. Ed worked hard, and he read more of the Bible than he's ever read before, and he gave a nice, simple, to-the-point sort of speech. And we were proud of him.
We were rather disappointed with the Seder supper on Wednesday night. I guess I hadn't appreciated before what an advantage it was to have a priest with a Jewish father, as the rector at our old church in Florida did. Father Goldberg did a great Seder that really felt like a Passover with family. Our new priest didn't read any of the prayers in Hebrew, and members of several other local churches joined our congregation for the supper, which was nice in one sense, but which made it feel less like family since we didn't know so many people. It was more of a Cliff Notes Seder, and we probably won't bother again.
Progress on my flower bed has been slow, but I hope to get a lot done this weekend. When the front bed is done, I will need to dig out a small bed for the vegetables too. The weather turned cold on us again in the last couple days, down to the low 30's at night, so it is probably a good thing that my seedlings are still in their trays and can sleep indoors. With luck, I will have their new home ready by the time they have outgrown their tiny peat pots.
