A Good Monday

We had an excuse for not getting to all the lessons on the plan today, as T. woke up with a sore throat and the "yuckies." We read stories and did quite a bit of school on the couch, and managed some math and Latin after lunch, when he felt a little better. We started four new books today -- Reading Detective (comprehension), Spelling Workout, Latina Christiana, and Christian Studies -- and they all went well, so it was an auspicious start to the week, despite T.'s poor health. K. did her copywork ("I love Mommy."), subtraction, and counting, but didn't feel like doing Hooked on Phonics. Instead, she wrote words (and copied some I wrote for her) on her Disney Princesses "computer." The princesses tell her what letter she is typing, what word she has written (or, very diplomatically, "what a nice sound"), and that she is doing well. When she can't remember what a particular letter looks like ("r" is especially troublesome), she says, "Let's look it up in the Alphapedia" ("alphapedia is an original "K" word, I believe), and has the princesses go through the whole alphabet for her. They are endlessly patient but rather loud, and their volume does not have a sufficiently low setting.

Aww, what a great start. Other than the yuckies. John slept until nearly noon yesterday, and I was happy to let him in the hope it will fend off anything that might be trying to get into the house!

Tape. Tape over the speaker holes is the best thing you can do for your sanity. So many of the V-Tech baby and toddler toys don't have a volume control, and we discovered that masking tape brings it down to a level that keeps Mommy from snapping at innocent bystanders. :-)

Dy,
Thank you! I never thought of that. I'm off to find the masking tape!
