I failed Lent.

and I didn't even eat a Crumb. I told my mom about giving up sweets for Lent, and she "cancelled" the baked goods that she was going to send for Valentine's Day. (My mom is the best baker in the world, so this is a Major League sacrifice. Ed was very sad.)
So today Ed went to the Food Lion for milk, and he came home with a king size Twix bar. We always share the king size Twix bars out four ways. I was on auto-pilot when I took the bar, unwrapped it, and ate my piece. I didn't even Think about it until an hour later, when Ed told Katie that her Twix was on the counter, and I mentioned that I'd eaten my piece. He looked at me and laughed, and then I remembered. Aaargh! Ed says it doesn't really count as breaking my Lent sacrifice because forgetting isn't the same as giving in to temptation. (But Ed is somewhat eccentric in his interpretation of religious practices, so I'm not much comforted.)
Travis and I were doing grammar today, adjectives, specifically, when he asked me when the grammar book got to the interesting questions, like how big the Biggest number is and where God came from. I flipped through our book, Building with Diligence: English 4, and had to inform him that, at least for this year, our grammar program wasn't hitting those topics. Grammar is Travis's least favorite subject. He thinks we should ditch it and study philosophy instead. He says that when he discovers a number bigger than any number that anyone else has found before, he is going to name it Travillion. That does have a certain ring to it, doesn't it?

LOL! I'll blog about my Lenten failures later. After I sabotaged my kids, I screwed up the family "give up" too. I *completely* forgot both... *sigh*
Hand the dunce cap over, ma'm. You're only a small time offender.
Oh, I'm right there with Ed on that one!! Thank goodness, our God knows our hearts and that's what counts! Try not to sweat the small stuff (or the rules), it's so much about the relationship with Him anyway!
Besides, how could you resist those beautiful, scrumptious-looking cookies made by such loving hands?! I know I couldn't!
LOL! I failed Lent. That's funny!
I've never really understood the giving stuff up for Lent thing. I tried it for the first time in High School because I had several Catholic friends who were doing it. I failed miserably, too! Still do.
Travillion is a great name for a number. I get a huge chuckle out of the things your kids say! ;)
Awwww! Thanks guys!
Andie,
I'm looking forward to seeing what You did wrong for Lent!
Dhugs,
I know God doesn't care about the Twix bar, but Lent and my sacrifice is for My benefit! I did decide that it was just a Little Twix, so all is not lost!
Jules,
I figure that giving up something you really like for Lent is a way to help set your priorities straight. Chocolate (and internet access) are not what is ultimately important. My problem is that my chocolate eating seems to be Instinctual.!
Travillion!!! I LOVE it!!
Good luck on getting back on the wagon!
Well, I'm not Catholic--in fact, I'm not even Christian. But is it possible to maybe do this one day at a time? I mean, isn't repentence....you know..about second chances?
