We have emerged from our flu prison! (Okay, maybe the analogy is a little dramatic, but we've had a Bad flu!) The kids are still a little pale and tired, and there is still some coughing going on, but they are eating again and have both been awake all day. It is so good to have them back to their regular silly, messy selves!
We have a fun new book that we've been reading and talking about at dinner time (And yes, I know it is rude to read at the table. But I say it is okay as long as you read out loud!). It's called Philosophy for Kids.
The book has 40 questions, and each one features a little information about the views of a famous philosopher on that question, and then there are some questions and ideas to help you think about what your answer is and why. Today we talked about questions #4 ("Should you let little things bother you?" -- Marcus Aurelius) and #5 ("Is it your duty to give to charity?" -- Moses Maimonides). So far, #2, "How do you know who your friends are?" (Aristotle) has been the best discussion, but there are a lot of good ones coming up! (#23 is "What happens to numbers when you are not using them?" -- doesn't that sound like fun?)

I am so glad that you all are on the mend. I kept meaning to stop by this weekend and leave a note for you.
That book looks really interesting. Something I need to look at sometime.
Continue to feel better!

This book looks really cool! Thanks for the review - I definitely want to check it out.
I love it when other people read something first and tell me if it's good or not! ;)
It Is a fun book. Definitely "philosophy lite," with just a Little on the thoughts of the "featured" philosopher, but it is a fun way to get talking about ideas that the kids won't formally study until high school (at least!).
