Still No Progress

No progress today.  The realtor called this morning, wanting to meet with us at the brick house again to find out what our intentions were with his listing.  We met with him, but our intentions are still not clear, and he is leaving town for a week on Thursday.  Ed isn’t wild about the house.  We stopped at Lowes on the way to meet the realtor and picked up a wrench and a flashlight so he could check more carefully up in the attic and take a look at the septic.  According to the neighbors, the house has been vacant for about five years, and that really spooks Ed.  He found a snakeskin and an area of water damaged plywood in the attic.  The water damage is near one of the fireplaces, and it appears that they put the new shingles on without replacing some plywood that should have been replaced.  He thinks the septic might be okay, but isn’t sure.  The realtor keeps saying that he thinks the sellers will be “flexible,” but I don’t know if he has any idea how flexible we have in mind.  He says that we need to have an inspection (and I’m not sure if this is a veiled hint or not – he also keeps saying that he thinks this is the best house he knows of for us in this area, and what a nice community it is), and that our offer can be contingent on the inspection going well.  I thought we were going to make an offer today, but Ed keeps hoping to run across something less in need of fixing up.  We did that a look around a (vacant) house today that had our realtor’s sign out front which we thought was one of the listings he had given us a sheet for in our price range (of course, we lost the listing sheets).  It was a big 50’s brick ranch, and they all look pretty much the same to me, but this one was on a nice big lot in a very attractive neighborhood.  Eventually we got in touch with our realtor, and it turned out that we had the wrong house – the house we had looked at was over $200,000, way beyond our upper price!

Ed got to talking with the Domino’s pizza delivery guy tonight, and he said we should look in the State Road area because it was nice and you could get more house for your money, and Ed said that maybe that was a Sign.  I’m not much on “signs,” but if it helps us make some progress (even if it is making our lowball offer and the offer is rejected) I’ll take it.  Anyway, we saw a cute fawn running across the backyard of the house today – could that be a sign?

The realtor said the little Episcopal church is getting a new rector, which sounds good (they’ve had an interim rector), but he also said he thinks there are only about 70 people in the congregation, which sounds a bit sparse.

I'm thinkin' y'all need to just head West and take a look around. Our roads aren't nearly as twisty and curvy! ;-)

I ran this idea by Ed this afternoon, but I don't think I'm going to convince him to take any more detours from a fairly straight path home after we finish looking around here tomorrow. He is tired.

Oh, Melora, I hope you find your place soon. What an adventure (yeah, that's it, an adventure!)

K and Ts godmother seems to be a very sensible lady. I think that might be a sign.

I'm not even sure he will detour as far west as Winder, but I'll run it by the boss. Why does everyone hate my brick house? The decor is 70's ugly, but that could mostly be fixed!
