My Little Squirrel

More packing today. Lots more, in fact, but we still aren’t finished. We are getting much closer to finished, though, which is a relief because I was beginning to think that we weren’t actually making any progress at all.

We’ve found some interesting things in the course of our packing. K. has an odd tendency to squirrel things away, and she either then forgets where she puts them or else takes a wicked pleasure in watching us hunt for them. Some of the things she hides, like the chocolate brownies I found in her closet, are things we don’t realize are missing until we come across them (I honestly thought she’d eaten the entire pan of brownies when I wasn’t looking), but others, like the bag from the pharmacy containing two hundred dollars worth of allergy medicine, are things we searched for frantically. Ed set that bag down on the kitchen counter when he brought in the groceries, and later in the afternoon we were horrified to find it was gone. We hunted through all the garbage, through cupboards, and everywhere else we could think of. We asked the kids if either of them had any idea of where it could have gotten to, but neither had. K.’s allergies were worse than usual without her Zyrtec. Then, on Tuesday, I told T. to pull out all the stuff under his bed so I could pack it and, among the mountain of assorted toy parts, clothes, and pieces of cardboard projects, was the bag from the pharmacy, unopened. I asked K. if she put it there, and she said yes, she did. I don’t get it.

We had an interesting period late this afternoon when the title company was telling us that they still didn’t have the paperwork from Judy’s bank and we wouldn’t be able to close Friday. Then they got their papers, so now we are closing tomorrow, but now they tell us that we probably won’t have our money wired into our account until Monday. This bothers me more than it should, since we no longer have a house to buy anyway tomorrow. As far as they knew, though, we were closing on a house in NC tomorrow, and they had promised that they would wire the money up there for the closing, so I just can’t figure out how it is that they would fail to mention until late in the afternoon that that transaction wouldn’t really be possible. Grrr. Judy the Buyer will be here at 11:00 for the closing. She called me to make sure we were good with the time, and said, perkily, “I thought it would be nice to close early in the day because then we can just relax the rest of the day!” Yeh. Relaxing. That’s what I’m going to be doing!

* I was packing my top closet shelf and found a pair of pajamas my mom sent for K. a little while back. They were a bit big at the time, so I put them aside for her to grow into. Now they are perfect, and she couldn't wait to wear them so she didn't. As you can see, the computers still aren't packed!
