We All Live in A White Minivan...

We closed on the sale of our house and are now officially homeless. I am writing this from our current residence, the minivan, where we are parked in an industrial park, 45 minutes from our old home, while Ed sleeps.

The movers were marvelous, which was a good thing for us since we were not done packing when they got to our house. I’ve been telling Ed that it was more than I could do all by myself, and he’s been cheerfully telling me not to worry so much, that I was doing great. On Friday morning we thought we had a few hours more packing left, and that seemed okay. The movers arrived promptly at 10:00, and were very friendly and cheerful despite our unpacked state, although they were a bit disappointed to find that the “heavy farm equipment” we supposedly had in the master bedroom did not really exist. Apparently the office had told them to expect some interesting wierdos. Around 3:00 I was packing the china and thought we would finish up around 5:00. At 5:00, I thought we would finish at 9:00. At 9:00 it all seemed hopeless. The movers finally left at 10:30, having asked us if we were sure that everything we wanted in the truck was in. We were still cleaning and packing up all the “little” things that Ed said we could put in the van, so the poor movers could go to bed. At 2:30 we collapsed on the bedroom floor, and Ed and the kids slept til 5:30. I am too old to sleep on floors, but I dozed. At 9:30 this morning we finally pulled out of the driveway in our absurdly overburdened van (we found that several kitchen cabinets and a bathroom cabinet had been “missed” in the earlier packing, so we are packed in the van like sleepy little sardines.) We drove for 45 minutes before I insisted that Ed find a place where he could take a nap, since he was dozing off in an alarming manner. Somehow, I don’t think we will make very good progress today, but at least we are headed in the right direction.

*The picture of K. shows her having a tea party with the very fancy new baby doll and tea set which
Judy brought for her. Judy also brought a big remote control car for T. We were so lucky to have such a nice buyer! It certainly worked out to be a good thing that she did't need to move into the house on Friday, too!

**The funny thing on T.'s head is a hat that he made at Hana's house. Hana's parents were kind enough to let T. and K. spend most of the afternoon and all evening on Friday at their house. The kids had a great time, and had nachos for dinner, which they thought an incredible treat. We were really blessed with unexpected (and undeserved) kindness and generosity from the people around us yesterday.

Oh geez! You guys need a tent! A tent like the tent we had for camping!

I hope you get through all this!

At this point, I will be happy to just arrive safely in North Carolina! We do have a small tent, but, surprise, it's packed!
I really appreciate the good wishes!

The furniture is going to Clearwater to live in the van for a week (or, hopefully, less) until we call to say where we will be living. Thanks!

Lynette -- It seems a little more practical, anyway! Thanks for the good wishes!
