T. demonstrated today such a total mastery of inattentiveness and indifference to his school work that I think tomorrow will have to be a really good school day*. What was most impressive was the way that he sat dutifully at the table, to the untrained eye (or mine, until I looked at his work), appearing to be putting forth a proper effort. Judging by the answers he put down to his math work (and we didn't get anything more than math and a little Latin done in four hours), either his brain was hijacked by an alien from a dimension where numbers work differently, or he was just jotting down totally random numbers without bothering to look at the questions. Trying to get sensible answers out of him was such an interesting experience that I even let Ed play for a while. Since the boy is usually only moderately ditzy, I'm going to write it off as one of those weird things that happen when the wind is from the south-west and the barometer is thus and so and the fuzzy caterpillars had black stripes in October. Tomorrow I'm going to give him today's problems again, and I'm quite sure he won't recognize them.
T. had his first meeting with his new piano teacher tonight, and it looks like she'll keep him (as a student, that is). She is a very pleasant lady who lives quite nearby, who is starting up as a piano teacher again after taking several years off. She has a grandson and granddaughter who are nearly exactly T.'s and K.'s ages, and who also live nearby, which gives us the double advantage that she is used to boys of T.'s age and she may be able to hook us up with playmates. She seemed to like T., and he her, so I think we were lucky to have found her. (Not that T. is not likeable -- he is very charming, as long as your tastes run to excitable, talkative boys.)
*Because he didn't use up any attentiveness today, and therefore will have a double dose to apply to tomorrow!

ROFLOL! Moderately ditzy!! Oh, my gosh, I love that description. We have two like that.
I let Zorak play the other day, too. He's no good at that game. I went to put EmBaby down and he came back w/ smoke coming out his ears, his eyes bulging, muttering, "He wishes he was dead, does he? Hmpf. That could be arranged." I asked if he was okay and he chuckled, "Yeah, just had to put myself in time out. Um, are you done yet? I think he needs you." Oy!
Poor guy. I don't think he wants my job at all.

Your comment made me laugh so loudly that T. wanted to know what was so funny. At least these things give us stuff to look back on with laughter! Ed is sure that he wants to teach the kids, and he chastens me when I get impatient with T., but, when he actually sits down with the child to help him with his piano practice or sub for math, he gets frustrated very easily.
