The Day the Roof Fell In

Not our roof, fortunately. Our community is building a three truck addition to the volunteer fire department building across the street. The building has been coming along nicely, and yesterday the kids and I admired the enormous crane they had there to lift the roof trusses. They finished getting the trusses up by the end of the day, and there were workmen there again this morning when the roof collapsed. Oddly, we didn't hear anything when it went (our neighbor, who was sitting in the front room of her quiet, childless house did hear the crash) -- Ed just looked out the window, and noticed that the roof was gone. Amazingly, no one was hurt. According to our neighbor, two of the workmen rode beams down, but, given the number of men who were there, I think it is astonishing (and wonderful!) that no one was killed.
Apparently, word of the event spread quickly, as there has been a steady stream of cars and trucks driving slowly past all afternoon.

T. was disinclined to do his school on Friday, and said that he would like to do the work Saturday instead. You will hardly believe this, but, despite my kind permission to do this, he was not highly motivated today either. He did it anyway, but the picture shows him writing out his memorized Latin prayer for the third time due to lack of attention to detail (like including the right words and spelling them correctly) the first two times through. K. and I baked a cake.

Hey, when did you cut your hair? Cute!

Funny how their plans don't feel quite as nice when it's time to implement them. It took James a few hours to write a narration on Alexander the Great. I finally got a sentence. One. I told him it better be a phenomenal sentence. ;-)

Wow, on the roof - I can't believe nobody was injured! What a blessing!

Dy,
Ed cut it for me a couple months ago. It is a change, and mostly I like it, especially when I remember to put on the anti-frizz stuff, which I hadn't in the picture.
Dhugs,
Thanks. Wait til I get the tile backsplash up & the pretty leaves &berries stencil on the trim over the sink! Oh, and a floor.
T. comes by his procrastination honestly, since I share his failing.
