My Larder is Stocked, So Now It Can Snow!

It wasn't easy, but T. and I wrestled his brain back from those aliens, and it seems none the worse for being abducted (and is tanned and nicely rested). We had a good day of school on Thursday, and today we played hookey and went bowling with a new homeschool group in Sparta. I was going to skip the bowling, but we've noticed that T.'s once fine social skills seem to be getting a tad rusty, and he promised most sincerely that he will do his school work on Saturday with a cheerful attitude (Yes, I know what you are thinking. If I checked back a few entries, I might be reminded of how much he enjoyed doing school on Saturday last weekend. But this time he really meant it!).
The bowling was fine, although if we bowl again we will pay for one game rather than one hour, since my kids have a more serious interest in the snack bar and arcade than in the actual bowling, and I really enjoyed talking with a couple of the moms. Ed had a dad to talk with too, so he was happy. T. and K., however, were reticent. I think that we've met too many new people lately, and none of them enough times. This new hs group meets every Friday, at various places (I think I'll skip the bowling in the future), and, aside from the dreadful mountain drive, I think it could be a nice group for us.
After bowling, we took a very scenic drive across to Mount Airy. It is supposed to get very cold next week, so I wanted to stock up on food & essentials. I filled my cart in the SuperWalmart while Ed entertained the kids by plying them with tasty treats in the Food Court. Walmart exhausts me, but it is a nice feeling to have the pantry (okay, the corner of my dining room) and fridge filled with food and a big pack of toilet paper in the hall closet. Let those chilly winds blow!

Speaking of chilly winds, we got more snow on Tuesday night, after I posted about our little "slurry." At about 10:00, I let the dog out and noticed that it was Really snowing. Big beautiful flakes of snow, that absolutely glowed as they blew past our back porch lights. The kids weren't in bed yet (they were headed that way!), so we bundled them up and let them run around, trying to catch snowflakes on their tongues, and scraping snow off the table, fence, and van to make (very small) snowballs. They didn't want to come inside, and, eventually, went to bed with visions of a snow covered back yard dancing in their heads. No such luck, of course. I don't think the snow continued much past when we went to bed, but they sure did enjoy it!
* The picture of K. shows her trying snow. As I told her it would (but she didn't listen), the snow she scraped off our little outside table had a fair lot of dirt in it. Not so tasty. Doesn't T. look cute in his new martial arts outfit?

Wow, he's really growing up, Melora! He looks so handsome, and so... I don't know, Big Guy, in his outfit. (LOVE the striped bottoms in the snow picture, though!)

Don't forget to warn the kids about eating snow of non-white origin!

He has gotten Huge, but he still wants to be snuggled, thank goodness! Those are his striped jammies -- they are too cute.

I will remember to tell the kids about checking the color of the snow -- thank you!
