We watched "Flipper" tonight. Aside from the fact that some of the scenery made me a little homesick (like I spent any time around the ocean anyway!), all I could think was that filmmaking has come a long way since 1961. Oh my. The hurricane scenes were particularly unconvincing, and the bit where three guys were supposed to be battling strong winds was (unintentionally, I think) really pretty funny. They should have hired some mimes. The kids loved it, though. Afterwards, K. wanted to play "shark and dolphin," where I would be the shark being butted by the dolphin (K.). The things we do for love, eh?
The wooden ducks finally came down today! Ever since we bought the house (well, even before we bought the house,
actually), I've been campaigning for the two wooden duck heads mounted over the doorway from the dining room to the living room to come down. I'm pretty sure they are coat hooks, and, however cute they might be mounted in the mudroom of a sportsman's house, they just looked peculiar placed in a pair over a doorway. Ed, however, has been maintaining they are part of the "character" of the house (character is one thing that this house has in abundance!). Today, though, he had a sudden change of heart (and I haven't mentioned the ducks in ages, so it wasn't me), and the ducks came down. T. immediately claimed them (turns out that he was quite attached to them -- who knew?), and I've told him that he can put them up in his closet. Of course, now K. wants one too. I think they're Mallards.

The fact that they left them w/ the house is really hilarious! Zorak's buddy inherited four concrete semi-Greek style fountains with the house he bought. He has no idea what to do w/ them. They don't work. It's kind of weird what people leave behind.
I'm glad the ducks now have a home with the littles. They'll love them, and you won't have fowl leering at you from the door. Very good arrangement.
