Foiled By Pollen

K.'s dance picture session did not go well. It wasn't the lack of artificial hairpiece or make-up that ruined our chance for a good, professional picture, but, rather, the arrival of this glorious Spring! K.'s allergy symptoms cleared up for the winter more than I can remember them doing for years, but they came back on the first of spring with a vengeance. According to the internet, pollen counts have been particularly high recently, and my poor little girl was a mess yesterday. While most of the other little girls had cosmetically black ringed eyes, K. had deep purple rings under her bloodshot eyes thanks to Mother Nature. The white recital dress with gauzy wings looked adorable on her, and I thought her simple pony tail was much sweeter than the enormous bunches of artificial curls that most of the girls had pinned on the backs of their heads, but the runny eyes and nose and accompanying misery made for a picture of a sad little fairy princess indeed. The photographer's assistant came out of the room where they were taking pictures to tell us that, "She won't smile." Ed did his best to persuade her to try again, but it was a lost cause. The lights hurt her eyes and she just wanted to go home. We went home by way of McDonalds, where ice cream cones were purchased for people who needed cheering up, and by the time we got home K. was in fine spirits again, though still runny.

I was a little surprised and very pleased to notice recently that some of my daffodil bulbs have popped up. These are the poor little bulbs that I bought last fall and didn't plant (because it got cold & I didn't want to go outside) and then finally put in the potato bin of my refrigerator when I realized that they had started sprouting. My dad took pity on them when he visited in the beginning of this month and planted them, but there was some doubt expressed about whether they would grow after the unorthodox way in which they had wintered. Of course, they may not bloom this year, but I think it is marvelous that those little bulbs are making an effort.

Oh, poor little K. Hey, is there somewhere there where you can find local honey? It's best if it's been harvested w/i 20 miles, so that it's made from the same pollen that's giving her fits. Give her a tablespoon of it in the morning, and then a teaspoon before going outside to play. You'll see a drastic improvement.

Oh, and look at your bulbs! But even more impressive, they have tags! You can tell what they are! Go you!

Dy,
Now there is a remedy that she might actually take! A lady at church was telling us yesterday about allergy shots that incorporate a small amount of the allergen, and your honey idea sounds like a more appealing version of that. I've put Ed on the case, and we will find some honey & try it!
I like the tags, but I should have bought a bunch when I found them reasonably priced.

Oh, yes, try the honey! My barely-worth-mentioning spring allergy symptoms disappear when I use it.
