My Mommy Instincts Need Tuning Up

K. was sick yesterday. I didn't realize at first that she wasn't just having a case of the clingies, and I took her along with me when I drove over to a friend's house to pick up the strawberries (four lbs. for $5.99!) that she had picked up for me at the Costco in Winston. I should know better by now. Naturally, she threw up on the way there and on the way back (the friend lives north-west of us, and there are lots of hills and turns), so she wasn't able to enjoy our friend's chickens or flowering fruit trees. Bad mommy. She spent the rest of the day on the couch, being read to and playing small dictator ("I like round crackers, not square crackers!"). She seems perkier today, so maybe it was one of those 24 hour ailments.

Can anyone tell me what this pretty little flower is? It is very small -- only about four inches high -- and I'm pretty sure it is a bulb, since it just recently appeared. For some reason, it looks blue in my picture, but it is really more purple. It is growing at the base of our heating oil tank.

Crud. Here I was going to surprise you by telling you what it is. But I can't find my new picture book (it's like gardening for idiots - Me-Tae bought it for me - good stuff). Ah, well, it's the thought that counts, right? It's a pretty flower.

I hope K is feeling better soon. It's tough to be sick.

It is a grape hyacinth. And you are right it is a bulb! They are wonderful and smell sooooo good! The boys were picking them at my mom & dad's today.

(((K))) Hope she is back to herself soon!

Dy,
Sounds like a fun book! It Is a pretty flower.

Emily,
Thank you! The name is perfect, since it looks sort of like a bunch of grapes, and the color is right. I hadn't thought to smell it, but now I have, and it is just lovely!
K. is feeling all better today. Thanks for the good wishes.

What a beautiful flower!

Are they transplantable?

Myrtle,
I'm not sure, but I'm going to give it a try after it is finished blooming! Since it has come up after years of neglect in an unweeded area, I think it must be fairly tough.
