On Saturday, both kids had baseball (t-ball and coach-pitch) practice. T. started at 10:00 and finished at 11:30, and K. started as soon as soon as T.'s group was done (they have the same coach, a lovely, patient man). Both of our children are so outstandingly unathletic that watching them was actually pretty funny. T. quickly became bored standing in the outfield (it didn't cross his mind that he should pay attention in case a ball should happen to come his way), and spent most of his time gazing into space. He actually broke into song a couple times, which seemed to startle his fellow outfielders. K. was happy to whack at the ball on the "t," but she didn't at all see the point in running around the bases, which the coach had the kids do as a separate exercise from the batting. She walked very slowly to first base, and then halfway to second base before she decided that the activity was just too stupid and came back to the bench. The coach said not to
worry, and that they might become more enthusiastic as time goes by if we don't give them a hard time. I'm somewhat skeptical, and I gave T. the lecture anyway about how he needs to put forth some effort when he is part of a team. They did have a great time eating cupcakes, and playing with the other kids on the big sandpile after the ball playing was over, and Ed and I met some nice people.

Who knew that removing grass and rocks would take so long? I'm looking forward to my roses coming, since the weather has really warmed up and I think they should be planted soon, but, on the other hand, it is going to take me at least the rest of the week to get their new home ready.
We went with our friends to their Presbyterian Church on Sunday, and it was very different, but quite nice. They have an hour of Sunday School first (I'd never been to grown-up Sunday School before, but I enjoyed it), and then the service, which lasted for an hour and a half. The kids
(mine) were exceptionally good -- I think it helped that the church was full of other children who were all well behaved. Bits of the service were familiar, but the Bible passages weren't printed in the bulletin and the minister had us whipping through our Bibles from one passage to the next to the next. He was good enough to keep Ed awake, which is saying a lot, but there was no Communion, and they wouldn't have let us partake anyway, since we are not members of an evangelical church. The pot luck dinner after the service was really excellent, and Ed got to meet all the ladies I do my book group with. T. and K. both liked the church very well, and Ed
and I thought it was fun as a (very) occasional thing. I was impressed by what a young congregation it was. Aside from two elderly people, all the members were around our age or younger (mostly younger), and with lots of kids. That was a nice change.

That was a nice change. We went over to play in a stream under a very small dam today after school, and the water was not as icy cold as I had expected it to be. Ed was sort of disappointed, since I had told him that the kids would probably dip their toes in and agree that we had been right about how it wasn't yet warm enough for swimming. They thought the water was just fine, and had a great time splashing around and finding pretty stones (all of which I got to carry). Ed even found a crayfish, and thought he was going to bring it over and show it to me, but the crayfish didn't comply.
Ed came out after dinner to admire my digging and noticed that we had a guest at our front door. He feels about
snakes the way I feel about spiders and camel crickets. I removed the snake from the porch and took it over to the next door neighbor's front yard (she seems to be only home on weekends). After seeing how obediently the snake sat in the shovel while I carried it, Ed thought he would take it a little farther down the road. The snake decided to disembark in front of the Baptist church, though, so Ed left him there.

WOW, what a wild weekend! I love the ball pictures. Glad the kids have a good coach, and he's right - it'll come, as long as it doesn't become a public dressing down every time they get out there. They'll do just fine. And if they don't end up loving it, well, they tried it, and that's pretty cool.
Have you seen the ad for The Weasel? I came SOOO close to buying one from a commercial the other night. Thankfully, I remembered that I shouldn't order anything advertised after eleven PM. lol. Good luck w/ the garden work!
Cool snake picture. I don't think I'd have been brave enough to use a shovel. A 50' pole, perhaps. WOW.
Dy
Nice ball picture, fun, cute kid in water....all nearly erased from my memory by SNAAAAAAKKKKKKKKKEEEEEE! picture.
:::shudder::::
Hey Dy, I knew a man that owned a Weasel (oh, that sounds weird) and he actually LOVED it. He was careful to point out that he didn't buy it from TV though, he got his at the store. LOL
Now I'll have to google the Weasel! I think you were wise not to order it from the late night ad. You might Start with a useful Weasel, but it would open the door to Veg-o-Matics, Sparkle-o-Matics, and vacuum powered hair clippers. Yikes! Perhaps they carry them at Lowes?
I'm glad you think there is some hope for my little ball players, although you might not if you'd seen them in action (or, non-action). As long as they have fun & make some friends, I'm okay with it.
Sorry about the snake pic, Andie! Ed feels that way about them too. I'm that way about many-legged critters, so I know what you mean.
The ball pictures are so cute! And the description of their enthusiasm is hilarious (and all too familiar).
WOW! Is that snake is going right up the wall?? I was LOL when you said you put it in your neighbor's yard!
I think my mom had a Garden Weasel at one time, and I think she liked it. I bet you can find them at the hardware store.
Oh that snake picture is so creepy. There's something so unnatural about that.
