T. Shares Everything With His Mommy

The good news is that T. doesn't have strep, just nasty goopy sore throat and low fever. The bad news is that he shared, and today I have the sore goopies. The silver lining, though, is that T. is already feeling much better, and I had a good excuse for sitting in my chair and reading A Wrinkle in Time, which is this month's book group read. I still don't love that book.

K.'s first game was last night, and she played the whole game. Admittedly, she spent her on-the-field time picking grass with another little girl, and experimenting with putting her cap on at various angles, and didn't once make a move toward the ball, but she didn't wander off the field to play on the swings or in the sand. She hit the ball off the "t" when she was supposed to, and walked (even briefly trotted, once) to the bases the coaches pointed her towards. We were very pleased!

*It was cold, and K. pulled her arms inside her shirt for warmth. If she had been making any pretense at trying to catch the ball, this would have ruined it, but she wasn't. Ed was supposed to drive home (all the way across the street) and get her a long sleeved shirt, but he got sidetracked by an elderly gentleman who wanted to talk about why we aren't attending the Baptist church next door and whether Ed was saved. Ed eventually escaped and got K. a sweatshirt, but only after inviting the fellow to stop by sometime and continue the discussion here. One of the coaches, a sweet guy, tried several times to convince K. and her friend that they would be more likely to catch the ball if they were standing up. They thought he was funny.

...why we aren't attending the Baptist church next door and whether Ed was saved...

It's always hard for me to tell if these types of exchanges are a serious attempt to proslytize or a sad attempt at socializing. Sometimes people go on about these sorts of things but don't really pay attention to the response.

Just explain that Ed's been the one donating the snakes.

LOL @ the snakes, Myrtle. You know, I don't think, down here, at least, that they understand there's a difference between the two functions. If you aren't one of them, and can't be made to become one of them, then they just don't know what to do with you.

People at our little town's functions always approach us (sometimes the same people at each function) and make such a friendly introduction, followed, in the same breath by an attempt to get us to come to the church there on the corner. When they learn we aren't interested, they're out of there like a shot. And that's when the folks from the church on the other end of the street saunter up to introduce themselves...

Oh, Melora, the pictures are just adorable! The chilly weather has brought on the layered look for our little players, too. John came out the other day w/ a long sleeve shirt on under his jersey that actually coordinated w/ his uniform. (I almost passed out! It was so exciting to know he wouldn't be dressing like a Steve Martin character his whole life!)

Love the pink glove!

And I hope your goop clears quickly. :-( Yuck. But YAY to not being strep! WOOHOO!
