A New Bird

We had a Rose-breasted Grosbeak visiting yesterday, and again today. I don't think I've ever seen one before, and I think he is very handsome. Harry thinks he looks delicious. He was kind enough today to wait around while I found the camera, though the pictures weren't as good as they would have been if Ed hadn't moved the feeder away from the window (he was afraid we were attracting rodents).

Harry was in my seat today when I was ready to sit down and do school with the kids. Given how well T.'s lessons have gone so far, maybe I should have let the cat have a go at teaching. K., however, is happy with her lessons using the Junior Scrabble Chocolate Chip Technique. She picks a card, finds the letters, copies the word, and receives chocolate chips. This is the only thing we've found so far that really inspires her to take an interest in reading and writing, and, aside from the fact that she is only learning capital letters (and I'm going to "doctor" the Scrabble cards to fix that), I am satisfied. Ed is afraid that she will be fat before she is literate.

I'm sorry, but this entire post cracked me up. Zorak asked if the boys cavities had anything to do with my motivational processes. Um, no. They actually brush and floss after math. Weird, I know. But it works.

Love the new bird. Harry seems to have taken well to his new life. Is he perked up and settled in now?

Glad to hear I'm not the only one resorting to bribery. It is one of the many areas where my thinking has changed as kids have grown. These days, if it works and isn't obviously damaging, I'm willing to give it a try!

Harry has settled right in. He looks for every opportunity to sneak upstairs (where he isn't supposed to be), but otherwise he settles in under whatever desk or table the people are at.
