Back to School

We started our new school year today, and it went well. K.'s interest in education is erratic and eccentric. She was much more interested in writing out addition problems for me to do than in doing them herself, but at least she was paying attention and writing numbers. She did do four problems and a very short copywork sentence. She declined reading practice (she was willing to read me one of the Bob books she has memorized, but that is a bit pointless), but that was really my fault for leaving it 'til late in the afternoon, when T. and I had finished. T. did his work with a good attitude and really tried to stay on task -- I couldn't ask for more. I complimented him on his fine effort, and he said, "Maybe it is because I had a nice long summer vacation." Ouch! Poor kid gets eleven days (including weekends) and thinks he's had a glorious holiday. I would feel guilty if it hadn't been such a nightmare getting him back on track after last summer. He followed up with, "Maybe you could give me an even longer vacation next summer, and maybe even a vacation at Christmas?" We'll see.

LOL. You know, although most of our friends at the quarry also homeschool, they don't go year-round. So when we get an invite to arrive at 10AM, the boys are awed that their friends can have ALL THEIR WORK DONE by ten! LOL! I don't say a word. Not one word. ;-)

How'd the cartoon strip narration work out today?

Sounds like a good first day. Odd enough, Katie is the one I'm having issues getting on schedule this time. Mary is actually going with the flow, and I am showing my gratitude towards her as much as possible.

I replied to you question on my blog tonight.
