The Atmosphere Wasn't Much, but the Company was Great!

In a perfect world, I wouldn't step foot in the Super Wal-mart during the month of December. (Of course, in a perfect world there wouldn't be a Super Wal-mart, but that is not where I am going with this.) However, this isn't a perfect world, and we needed cookie tins, brown paper, bubble wrap, and presents for Ed's parents and brother, who don't do Amazon (just imagine!). I told Ed and the kids that this was going to be It, our one and only shopping trip for the month (not counting the trip that I will need to make in a week or so for food), so Travis took out a small loan from Ed to buy presents (he loves to buy presents for people, but he is terrible at saving money), and Katie got all dressed up. I sort of wished that we were going somewhere snazzy, like the Gardens Mall in West Palm, with Saks and Bloomingdales and all, because she even found a pink ribbon for me to put in her hair, but can you imagine what fifteen cookie tins would cost at Saks? Actually, I have no idea, but it would be a whole lot more than in the garden center at Wal-mart, I'll bet. Anyway, we had a good time, found all the stuff we needed, and Travis treated Katie and me to a snack at the Wal-mart dining area (he went up by himself to order for us, while we sat at the table, and he looked so pleased and proud).

(The pony tail with ribbon. Katie has never let me put stuff in her hair, so this is a big thrill for me.)

You are a brave woman, going to Wal-Mart at this season. Although I had to stop by the store yesterday, briefly, I avoided Wal-Mart. Even the parking lot looked unfriendly.

But it does sound as if the trip turned out well anyway.

I loved your advent posts and cookies post, too. The beautiful reading from Hebrew scriptures is one of my favorites. "Oh, House of Israel, walk by the light of Adonai" is carved above the ark in our main sanctuary here.

Ed insists on a spot close to the door at Wal-mart, and I was afraid he would never find a spot he liked. Definitely a good time to avoid that place!
