It's the Most Wonderful Time...

Katie has been dancing around the house tonight, singing "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!"
It really has been a very nice evening.
Our favorite librarian called late this afternoon to say that Katie won the children's division of the gingerbread house contest, and that she could pick up her prize at the desk.  The library had puppet shows and cookies & hot cocoa tonight to coincide with the downtown's "light up Main Street" event, so we went and watched puppet shows, snacked, and strolled aound downtown admiring lights and decorated shop windows.  It was cold but not too cold, and very cheerful and festive.  Then we went over to the Yadkin Valley General Store, which sponsored the gingerbread contest, to let Katie use her gift certificate prize.  I suggested organic cheddar (Amish made and really excellent!), but she chose a variety of sweets -- big surprise there, eh?  She shared generously, though.

Our library has a life size Dobby which they dress up for all the holidays.  With the Santa hat you can't see his ears, but that is Dobby.
We spent a while admiring all the other contest entries.  You can see that Ed and I didn't stand a chance of winning in the adult category -- there were some absolutely marvelous houses.

Even a Noah's Ark.  The alligators around the back (you can't see them) were darling.

Here is Ed.

Actually, this has been quite a winning week for Katie.  She also won (well, I won, but I entered because I knew she would love the prize) a beautiful book about horses in a contest offered by Melanie at Four Squares.  The book is chock full of gorgous horses, and Katie and I have been having fun debating which we should get (as if).  She says the Swedish Warmblood, and I can't deny that that is a beautiful horse, but I still have a soft spot for Arabians.  Many thanks, Melanie!

How fun! Congrats to Katie for winning the gingerbread house contest, and I'm so glad she liked the book. :)
