Better Late Than Never!

When we left Florida, where we had access to two enormous public pools (open year round, with practically no one using them during most of the day), we promised the children that we would buy them an above ground pool when we got to North Carolina.  Well, it took nearly four years, but we finally did it!

You can't tell from the picture, but this thing is a monster!  Twenty feet across the middle.  We hadn't planned on such a large one, but unfortunately the kids were with us when we were looking around at Walmart and immediately latched onto this one as the Pool of Their Dreams.  It wouldn't be a big deal except that our poor old well is a delicate thing, pushed beyond its limit if asked to supply the shower and the washing machine at the same time (which is one reason it took us so long to keep our promise).  So we are filling it very slowly -- fifteen minutes every couple hours.  Ed has told the kids that it will take a few weeks to fill, but they don't mind.  They have already been having a great time splashing about in the few inches of water that are in it, and constantly checking to see how the water level is coming.

Today they went to the dentist for checkups, and they were once again cavity free. To celebrate, Ed took us to Dairy Queen!  We haven't been there in over a year, and we noticed that there was a new candy store.  Not being the sorts to let tummies full of ice cream dissuade us from investigating such a thing, we went in to see what sort of candy was involved.  The owner was lovely, encouraging us to try samples of all sorts of candies.  My favorite was the Port Wine Fudge, which lived up to its promise and is absolutely luscious. The kids liked the regular chocolate fudge, but we settled on the Port Wine Fudge and a white chocolate cinammon bark that Ed particularly liked.

All of my roses are out now, and I wish I had gotten some better pictures as they are really gorgeous.
