Forty-five

A friend asked me yesterday how old I was going to be today, and on hearing my answer inquired sympathetically whether I was upset.  Although I can't say that I'm pleased with my new number, I'm not upset either.  Maybe I would be, but lately we've been too busy with school for me to have time to think deep and distressing thoughts about my advancing years.  Another reason to be thankful for the crazy co-op, I guess.  And anyway, I'm just so grateful to be living this wonderful life, at home, teaching my goofball kids, with good friends, and in a beautiful location, to complain about reaching the middle of my forties.  Aside from the slightly creaky knees and delicate back, I wouldn't change a thing!

Today was completely perfect.  I stayed in bed and read 'til my parents called at 8:30 to sing "Happy Birthday" to me (the kids were very obliging about delaying the start of their lessons).  Katie had made me a luscious cake and couldn't wait for us to eat it, so we had cake for breakfast.  Then I opened a glorious pile of books, which will keep me happily reading for a long time to come, as well as a new pair of blue jeans, a box of chocolates from Travis, and a drawing from Katie.  I overcame the temptation to take a holiday and spend the day with my presents (which I might have done if we hadn't just come back from vacation!).  The kids did tolerably at school, and then we went Out for a delicious dinner that I didn't have to cook!  I call that a Perfect Day!
