You Embarrass Me So Much It Doesn't Matter Anyway

Earlier today...
Travis: "Mom, why are you wearing that shirt?"
Me: "Why?  What's wrong with it?"
Travis: "Oh, nothing."

Later, as we are preparing to leave the house...
Me: "So, what don't you like about my shirt?"
Travis: "Nothing."
Me: "I could change it, if you want.  I don't want to embarrass you."
Travis: (voice dripping adolescent angst) "You embarrass me so much it doesn't matter anyway."

He is referring to an incident which occurred last week at the walking trail across the street.  He was walking with me (because Ed insisted that he expose himself to at least a few minutes of fresh air), and I was teasing him and calling him, in a not-so-discreet voice, affectionate names such as "dear little sweetie lumpkin". And I gave him a hug. And it turned out that I did so within the hearing of a couple standing nearby, in the shade of a tree.  I wasn't wearing my glasses and didn't see them until it was too late.  Oops.  He still hasn't forgiven me.
Of course, I think his huffiness is a bit rich, coming from the person who embarrassed me a few years back (okay, maybe ten years back) by running through the fully packed church hall at coffee hour with his trousers around his ankles.  But there it is.  Just because I am a kind and forgiving person, though, I changed my shirt before we left the house.

*And because I Do care, I cleared this post with Travis before publishing.  He laughed and said he loves me. Now all is right with the world!

LOL! Good work, Mom. Don't forget all the humiliations of delivery. You're so far behind in this game it is ridiculous.
