Badminton. With a Difference.

Ed made new poles for our new net (the old net was in shreds and the old poles had rusted through), and we played badminton again this afternoon for the first time in quite a while.

You may think of badminton a a game you might play while sipping a cup of tea and nibbling a shortbread cookie (clearly you are more coordinated than we are, but we are sure you can do this), but you have yet to play on a badminton course with a "Finny Hazard." We actually aren't all that skillful under the best circumstances, but when Finny joined us today our game descended to a new low. But it was more fun than ever!

Finny caught the birdie right off, and the kids and I chased him round and round the yard to get it back. Which we eventually did, only to have Travis hit it into the leaves of the big oak over the net, and none of the rackets or shoes we pitched up at it brought it back down. Fortunately we found more birdies and were able to continue. Finn continued to be interested, but did refrain from taking off with the birdie again. Instead he played "puppy hazard," first on one side, then on the other side of the net.
