Field Trip Day!

Can you guess where we went today with some other families from our home school group?

Here are some hints...

The weather was cooler (read: Very cold) than I'd expected, especially in the morning. We didn't get rain, though, and it warmed up in the afternoon. And there were very few other people there (there being the North Carolina Zoo, in case you hadn't guessed!).
These flamingos were living outside the large, warm aviary. Ed felt very sorry for them.
As you can see, their poor little knees are just Purple with cold.
This guy is some sort of Poison Dart Frog. Isn't he the most marvelous blue?
I just loved the colors!
Ed teased me about wanting to see these, but how could I pass up Red River Hogs? You have to look closely, because my picture isn't great, but take a look at more distant pig's Ear. It is shaped like an angel's wing!

This polar bear had a nice big area, and a swimming pool, but, as you see, he was playing in his mud wallow.

This bird wouldn't cooperate and let me take a good picture, so you'll just have to take my word for it that he was very pretty. He is some sort of desert cardinal with a tongue twister name --Pyrrhuloxia.

It was a very nice day!

And you didn't call!!!!

Seriously, Mary woke up Tuesday morning wanting to go to the zoo, and we didn't because I had all these nice, pretty lesson plans for the day.

Being cloudy you lucked out by seeing a lot more animals than normal. When it is sunny they tend to hide. Looks like you had a really nice day.
