Spring Break

Katie had her second Prairie Girls meeting this afternoon. Once again, we had a marvelous time! The girls started by decorating apples with cloves, which made the room smell delicious.

Then they had pancakes in the shapes of people and animals, with real maple syrup.
Here is the cabin where we meet.
Our leader & hostess plays the fiddle. Today the girls sang "O Susanna" and danced.

After the dancing, we went back inside. Here is Katie, giving her talk on her favorite part of Little House in the Big Woods. She liked the part about Laura and Mary playing house with their dolls. She has never spoken before a group before, and she did beautifully.
Last, the girls learned to thread needles and started making nine patch pillows. Katie wouldn't let me help her, but threaded her needle, tied the knots, and sewed two patches together, all by herself. Then she did it again. She would have happily stayed all afternoon, I think, sewing.

My parents came to visit today! They needed a break from their Very Long Maine Winter. They will be here for a week, so we are now officially on Spring Break!

I really enjoyed the Prairie Girl pictures. ALl the little girls in their 'olden-days' dresses (as I used to call it). I am envious that they did not have Prairie Girls when I was young!

Enjoy your break.

Oh, *I* want to go to Prairie Girls! That looks like SO. Much. Fun! And isn't Katie just cute as a BUG in her little gown and bonnet? How do you keep from squeezing her and just lifting her up and spinning her around all the time?

Enjoy your spring break!

It looks like a grand time! Why didn't they have Prairie Girls when I was a kid? It would have been right up my alley.

And the leader even plays the fiddle? That rocks! :)

Elisheva,
I am enjoying it!
Dy,
She is having So Much fun with it! When we first learned about it, I couldn't help thinking that there were an Awful Lot of books in the Little House series, but now I'm sure we will be sorry when we are finished with the last one.
Jules,
It Is fun. We are lucky to have a couple members of the group with old fashioned talents (I wish I did!).
