Oh, No, Don't Let the Rain Come Down...

Ed called five roofing companies yesterday morning, and no one has been out to look at our poor soggy roof yet. One fellow said he'd come last night, but then he didn't. He and also a guy from another company may come tomorrow, but we're not holding our breaths. Fortunately, today was gorgeous and sunny.
Since I am somewhat (okay, obsessively) preoccupied with our roof, which is a pretty dull subject to anyone who isn't living under our roof, I am filling out today's post with the writing that Travis did today. Our writing program has the student re-write a story one week, and then re-write with added details and minor creative changes the next. Travis's general goal in composition is to do the absolute minimum that I will accept, and he is very stingy with the descriptions which he is supposed to include of setting, characters, background information, and motivations. However, he does enjoy adding his own quirky little details.
The original story here was about Walter Raleigh throwing his cloak over a puddle to allow Queen Elizabeth to pass over without getting muddy.

Once there a was a man named Walter Raleigh who had very nice clothes like his blue cloak and sparkly shoes and tights and hat. One day he was wearing his favorite clothes on his way to do his job of selling stamps with pictures of parallel dimensions on them. He was walking on a street of downtown London toward his office when he came to a dirty poodle. He didn’t want to get his shoes dirty so he tried to get himself over the poodle.
Suddenly, Queen Elizabeth appeared. She wanted to pass the poodle, but the poodle kept chasing her. Walter loved the queen so much that he forgot about his problem. He threw his beloved blue cloak over the disgusting poodle.
“Thank you,” said the queen of England gratefully. Then she said, “Now I shall make you a knight because you were so kind.”

*Travis does know when to start new paragraphs in his writing. Blogger took his indentations out.

Travis is on a bit of an Indiana Jones kick. This is his Indiana Jones look. If I.J. carried a small cat, and used a dog leash instead of a bull whip, I think he'd be pretty close! In very dim light, anyway.

And here are the kids with their new haircuts. Travis was constantly having to push his hair out of his eyes, so I think this will make all the difference in his ability to concentrate on school work!

Good job, Travis!

We've been having trouble getting contractors to talk to us, too. We were hoping to maybe get a fireplace or wood burning stove installed before winter, but we've already been stood up by one guy, and the rest haven't even bothered to return our calls. I get that this is a busy time of year for them, but it still speaks poorly of them and their business practices.

Hope you get quicker service than we have!
