Sunday

A kind friend gave us two gargantuan sweet potatoes on Friday. Honestly, the bigger one was the size of six normal-large sweet potatoes. So with supper on Saturday we had baked sweet potato wedges (recipe here) and sweet potato pudding. And today I made sweet potato bread. And I still have a whole potato left to cook.

On Monday one of the moms from church called to tell me that the children would be singing Hymn 490 (from the 1982 Episcopal Hymnal) this Sunday as part of a presentation they would be doing. Travis and Katie practiced all week, and their performance today was Absolutely Wonderful. Ed and I were so proud. Many people came up to us afterward to say nice things, particularly about Katie, who didn't use a hymnal (mostly because she can't read well enough yet to sing from it, but also because it is heavy) and had memorized all three verses. Ed bought them ice creams on the way home. Also in church news, Father Blanck asked Katie a couple weeks ago if she wanted to be an acolyte. He caught her off guard and startled her and she said "no," but today she talked to him and told him that she does want to, so she is set to start next week. So exciting!

Wow, what a great weekend! I can't believe it's Katie's turn to be an acolyte. Wow. *sniff*
