Wednesday (on Thursday)

Prairie Girls met to discuss These Happy Golden Years yesterday. We really enjoyed the book, and the girls had a great time making bead bracelets (in the book, Mary goes off to college and learns to make decorative items with beads), pulling taffy (the taffy turned out very hard and tasting of butterscotch. We kept warning the children Not to Chew it because it would pull their sealants out.), and singing. Here is our intrepid leader trying to inspire the girls in their singing of Polly Wolly Doodle. Apparently Polly Wolly Doodle is just too Silly for our serious minded young ladies.

There will be another meeting for These Happy Golden Years next week, and then we start The First Four Years -- the last of the series. This group has been such fun that we hate to see it end. There has been talk of adding the boys (who have been running wild in the woods and mucking around in the pond while the girls meet) in and practicing to perform a Shakespearean play. (Travis is dying to do his hammy Hamlet!) I think Laura would approve.
