The Pageant

The kids had their pageant at church today, and it went pretty well! A family that shows up only on rare occasions came (they come for Easter too), and brought five extra 9-10 year old boys. We'd never seen these boys before, but they were very well behaved and gave us much needed bunch of shepherds and an inn keeper. Everyone paid better attention to what they were supposed to be doing during the performance much better than they had in the rehearsals, and not a single child fell down the steps or got clonked with a crook. Joseph (Travis) looked congested and tired, but it is a good hike from Nazareth to Bethlehem, so I figured "tired" was a realistic look.

(Katie had a terrible time keeping her "Mary" head covering on. It was one of the major challenges of the whole production.)In this part of the story, Mary fixes a dinner of grapes and fresh baked bread while Joseph naps. What, that isn't in your Bible either? The baby Jesus was played by an enormous and very heavy baby doll. Katie brought a more manageable sized doll from home for the rehersals, but wouldn't you know we forgot to bring it for the actual performance. So she just heaved the big baby around as best she could.Don't you just love the hat on the nearest wise man? I couldn't look at it without thinking of leprechauns and "Come back with my Frosted Lucky Charms, they're magically delicious!"And here they are singing 'What Can I Give Him, Poor as I Am?" Well, the girl in white with the halo is doing her solo, and the rest of the kids came in soon after. Isn't the little boy dressed as a cow cute? He was our only livestock. Katie was a cow at the same age.Now they're singing. It was nice, and it will be nice Not to have to get to church an hour early for rehearsals any more too.

Congratulations to the little thespians!

And I am glad there were no malfunctions with crooks or veils!

So cute! That's very cool that they got to be Mary and Joseph.

I love church Christmas pageants!
