Trials and Tribulations

T.’s party was fun, and the birthday boy overcame his fear of the diving board! In the past, he has climbed the ladder, walked out to the end of the board, and retreated. Yesterday he jumped, and then went on to jump over and over and over again. There weren’t many other kids around, so there wasn’t much of a line and he could enjoy his new “skill” to his heart’s content (somewhat to the dismay of the lifeguard, who rightly assessed his swimming as a weak dogpaddle and felt the need to keep a close eye on him). Several expected guests didn’t come, but the ones who came had fun (and we will be eating leftover party food for several more days!).

Aside from the party, I wasted the rest of my weekend frantically searching real estate sites on the internet for a place for us to live. It turns out that a couple of my “requirements” are not compatible with each other – large house, low price, big lot, low crime and pollution, nearby Episcopal church, and fabulous library. Up to now, I hadn’t realized just how good our local library is! The houses that I find that meet my other requirements are, at best, twelve or more miles away from libraries with collections 1/3 the size of what we are used to. Inter-library loan is great and all, but it isn’t the same as being able to browse through long stacks of books and videos to make my selections. Oh woe!
