We finally got some more snow today! Not
enough to impress a northerner, and not enough to sled or make snowmen out of (although T. and K. now each have their own "portable" snowmen living in the freezer), but enough to be piled up on branches and in patches on the ground. Very pretty! Of course, it also means that the kids' dance/martial arts studio, ever quick to cancel due to "winter weather," has cancelled tonight's classes.
My bluebird has been back to the birdbath (promptly de-iced for his sipping pleasure first thing when I came downstairs today) several time this morning. He makes me happy (just as promised, eh). We also got a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (isn't that a great name?), who seemed intent on taking down our pine tree. Due, I suppose, to the snow, we had many more of all sorts of birds than usual today, including quite a few cardinals. I always thought cardinals were pretty in Florida, but they look absolutely amazing on a dark green pine bough sprinkled with snow.
Wow!

Wow!*I forgot before and had to come back and add the most exciting part of this morning's birdwatching, which was when little Stucky (so named because K. was afraid that he would get stuck in the feeder) climbed into the feeder and appeared to be stuck! We are almost out of seed (I broke Ed's rule and threw out bread crumbs for our hungry little guests), so the little guy climbed right in, the better to reach the seeds at the bottom of the feeder. I hurried out to unscrew the top and release the poor frightened thing, but he popped right out and flew away before I got there. He wasn't stuck at all.
