They are So Refined!

The kids had friends over to play on Sunday afternoon. They had a great time! Here the girls are enjoying a tea party, with "pinkies out!"
Even the barbarians, when they took a break from rampaging and showed up for tea, exhibited a proper decorum. I didn't get our lesson plans finished until late. We are continuing with the Roman empire in history, focusing on daily life, as well as Augustus Caesar and Nero (he fiddled, you know!). Travis is still finishing up Life of Fred: Fractions, and Katie is working on the last lessons in Singapore's Intensive Practice 1A. I think that by next week they will both be through these. Travis is doing an essay in IEW's Ancient History Based Writing Lessons comparing the gods of the Greeks and Romans with the God of the Bible, as well as outlining his history reading. Katie's writing program, Writing with Ease, Level 2, uses selections this week from The Patchwork Girl of Oz, and she is also doing a couple history narrations. Grammar, Latin, poetry, etc. continue as usual.
Most weeks the kids have maps to label, and last week's was particularly packed.
Travis prints his place names, so his labels don't overlap, but his writing is obscure.

And here is Katie's paper on Julius Caesar and Cleopatra. I liked all the lovey hearts!

(and, just in case you can't read her writing, here is what it says: "Caesar fell madly in love with Cleopatra, who was supposed to be ruling Egypt with her brother. Cleopatra thought Caesar would make her queen of Egypt and he did.")
